Grand Crown Stuffed Shrimp is not the same as any other stuffed shrimp dish you’ve ever had before. The stuffing to this incredibly tasty stuffed shrimp is sandwich between two pieces of extra-large shrimp so it becomes a full portion entrée with just two or three pieces of shrimp on a plate.

This recipe requires the use of every large shrimp because of its stack and pack design. Smaller shrimp are not broad enough to accomplish a good result, they tend to shrivel up too much.

Larger shrimp tend to cost a little more and can be a little tough if over cooked. So, do a little research to make sure you get the very best quality and price.

Where to by your shrimp

If you have local seafood markets or a wharf that has seafood markets as a part of its structure this is the very best place to buy seafood. However, there are many local grocery store that has good seafood. Whenever you are buying seafood it is important that you consider the source (read the label). I would really be very skeptical of most farm raised imported shrimp due to issues with being contaminated with antibiotic residues.

You can make this dish even more attractive by gently pounding the shrimp a little just to create a broader area. This is a technique that I use when making the Grand Crown Stuffed look closer to a piece of small stuffed fish. Even though I did not need to pound the shrimp for this it’s always nice to have a little presentation trick up your sleeves. If you should try this be sure if you do the bottom you have to do the top so that everything cooks at an even rate.

This is not a good microwave reheat. Just a few minutes (about 12-15 minutes) in a 300°-315° oven or 275°-300° air fryer can do the job.

Leftovers are in a tight window

I suggest that as far as leftovers go, I would not keep this for more than one day. Crab meat can really turn on you in a hurry.

Sometimes good crabmeat can be hard to find and when that happens the price goes thru the roof. So, if you ever see high quality pasteurized crabmeat (canned crabmeat) consider getting a can. Pasteurized crabmeat can be kept in the freezer with little loss in quality. It’s a good backup plan.

Preparation Tip

In this recipe I have found it best to make the crab stuffing and sauce first.
