Using the seasoning package that comes along with the piece of meat is enough to make a pretty good braised corned beef.

But, now is the chance to use some of those spices in your pantry that you rarely use such as black peppercorns or any peppercorns, allspice, cloves, bay leaf and anything else that you can imagine.

When you and these different herbs and spice you begin to make the recipe your own just keep in mind what you are going to be using the corned beef for.

Not only is this a great leftover, but often times it’s cooked just for that purpose. Because it works well as sandwich meat and as a meal. The best Reuben sandwich is made with freshly cooked corned beef.

Most of the time the beef is boiled. So, can you imagine how much better that Reuben sandwich or corned beef meal will taste with freshly braised corned beef as the main ingredient?

This is a very simple recipe using a prepackaged store bought Corned Beef Brisket.

  1. Trim unwanted fat and wash under cold running water. place in oven safe pan then top with seasoning package and any optional seasonings.

  2. pour 3 1/2 cups of water into pan (do not pour over meat) and cover with top or foil.

  3. Cook for 3 1/2 hours then remove from oven and let rest for 20-30 minutes.

     

  4. Serve as you like.
